Why should I get an Alarm System?
When you drive up to your home or business after having been away, do you think to yourself, "Well, it's still there."? That thought is one of the main reasons people have alarm systems. Would you leave your most prized possessions out on the sidewalk? Would you allow your family to step into danger? Of course not. We lock our cars. We lock our homes. We lock our businesses and even our store rooms. We hold our children's hands to keep them from running into danger. The reasons are all the same:  Security, Safety, and Peace of Mind. However, we also know that locks only keep out honest people. When a lock is breached, it's no longer a question of honesty. It's now a question of detection and notification. Hence, the Alarm System. People who have alarm systems know that the possibility of burglary, robbery, or fire is high and are doing all they can to prevent becoming a victim. Ask yourself one question. If your home or business had just been broken in to, would you wish you had had an alarm system?
According to security experts, homes and commercial establishments with alarm monitoring are over 10 times less likely to be burglarized. Most insurance companies offer an additional discount on homeowner's insurance if you are protected by a home security monitoring system.
Does an Alarm System require a separate phone line?
No, a separate phone line is not necessary. However, the system will seize your phone line for a few seconds when sending an emergency alarm signal to our 24-Hour Monitoring Center.
I am not happy with my current provider. Can I switch to American Security Devices?
The answer is a definate "maybe". This really depends on the contract you have with your current service provider. Refer to that contract for information on the term of the agreement, equipment ownership, and cancellation policies. Once you are free from your contracted obligation, feel free to contact us. We will send a qualified
American Security Devices Representative to your location to evaluate your system. Our representatives will
determine your security needs, make recommendations, and discuss the necessary steps required to bring
you on board as a valued American Security Devices customer.

DSL & VoIP
I just got DSL, will that interfere with my alarm system?
Yes, your alarm system is connected to your phone line which allows the alarm panel to call the proper athorities in case of an emergency. The alarm will need a DSL filter to work properly. Please call the service department to order a DSL filter and to set up and appointment to install the filter.
I just got VoIP Telephone Service, does that affect the alarm system?
Yes, Voice over internet protocol affects the alarm system negatively. The communicator in the alarm panel cannot transmit the proper signals over the VIOP format. Also, be aware that many VIOP providers do not offer 911 service.  You generally have to pay extra for the service and the service is limited in regard to options. 911 will not be able to use Caller ID to locate the address from which you are calling. Another problem with VIOP is if and when your power goes out you will not be able to use you phone as the modem that carries the signals is powered by AC power via your household 110v electrical outlets. Regular phone service carries it own power so your land line will work during a power outage.

Your Account
What is my current balance?
Invoices are mailed on the 15th of each month for balances due. Should you require your balance or payment information at any time, please call our office.
Did you receive my payment?
If your payment was received on or after our invoice date, your invoice may not reflect it. Please feel free to call us at any time for your balance or payment information.
Do you take American Express?
No. We currently take Master Card, Visa and Discover.
How do I get a copy of my invoice?
Write, call or e-mail your request for a copy of the current month's invoice. Previous month's invoices are not available. However, an aging report may be obtained for the previous 12 months.
How do I test my system?
You should test your system on a regular basis, usually monthly. We have no way of knowing if your alarm is working. Testing must be done on site. The first thing to do is contact the monitoring station and put your system on "test" for the period of time you need. Once you have put your system on test, arm your system and activate selected or all devices. You may arm, disarm, and activate your system as many times as you need during this period. Once you have completed your testing, contact the monitoring station again and verify that signals were received by them and what they were. If you are finished, you may take your system off test at this time.
Do you have any discounts?
We're glad you asked. We do have a discount on monitoring when you pay 11 months in advance. You pay for 11 months and we give you a free month of monitoring. This is a win-win situation. You save a full month of monitoring fees and we save billing costs. Just multiply your monthly payment amount (with tax) by 11 and that's your payment. You won't be billed for a full year. This is an annual saving to you of over 9% not counting time and postage.

What does being UL Certified mean?
Underwriters Laboratories' (U.L.) sole purpose, as a not-for-profit organization, is to establish critera for the manufactures and service organizations to ensure high standards so the consumer can feel confident when purchasing the product or service. However, because a company uses U.L. Listed products, it does not mean that they are a UL Listed Installation Company. UL Listed installing companies, in essence, pay an outside agency (U.L.) to insure they operate in compliance with the highest industry standards.
